  A Perfect Day  

Every runner dreams of still, cool conditions and that's what we had on Sunday. The mercury hovered around 12 degrees until 9am before steadily increasing to a top of 20 degrees at 2pm.

Key highlights among many were:

  • The Medibank Melbourne Marathon became the largest marathon in Australia with 6218 marathon finishers
  • 22 women broke the three hour mark making a new Australian record
  • Three runners - Scott Westcott, Lauren Shelley and Jane Fardell – all qualified for the world championships in Moscow next August
  • Kenyan runner, Jonathan Chesoo won with a time of 2:12.35 - the equal fourth fastest winning time in race history.
  • Perth's Lauren Shelley picked up $13,000 in prizemoney after clocking 2:36.29 - the seventh fastest winning time in history
  • Mulgrave's Brett McArthur won his second Melbourne wheelchair marathon in 1:45.54 - the fourth fastest time in race history.

Overall we had more than 32,000 entries across the five events that comprise the Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival which is a great result.

IMG would like to congratulate every person that competed on Sunday - it was a fantastic day.

To put on an event of this size takes a huge team effort and we would like to thank every person and all the charities and volunteers involved in the running of this years event for without the team there would be no event.

We would also like to thank all of our sponsors and media partners in particular Medibank, ASICS, Flight Centre, The Coffee Club, Bose, Herald Sun and Channel Nine.

Our aim is to continually improve this event and we are already working on the planning for the marathon next year.

  Hertz / BRW Corporate Relay Run  

Wed. 14 Nov 6.15 pm Albert Park Lake

The event is a twilight spectacular featuring teams of 3 each completing a 5km lap of Albert Park Lake in relay format with bands, DJs, entertainment, lighting and corporate hospitality. The inaugural event last year attracted over 2000 participants and received overwhelming accolades. The first 830 teams all receive a 2XU event t- shirt ( RRP $60) and already over 80 companies have entered.
