We’re only 2 weeks away from race day so now is the time to refine your training to ensure you’re in race condition. What should you eat before your race? How much training should you do the day before?

Take the long road
You can still enter for this year’s 35th Medibank Melbourne Marathon on October 14, but with less than three weeks to go, we strongly recommend your training this week includes a really long run of around 30km. The 9000-field limit for The Coffee Club 10km has now been reached, while the Flight Centre Half Marathon reached its capacity six weeks ago.
There are still spots available for the Asics 5.7km run and 3km non-competitive walk. All events finish inside the MCG. Enter at www.melbournemarathon.com.au
Newcastle’s Scott Westcott tuned up for his assault on the Medibank Melbourne Marathon on September 16 with a super run in the Australian half marathon championships in Sydney. Westcott clocked 64.47 on the tough hilly course and is aiming to post a qualifier in Melbourne for the world championships in Moscow.

Box Hill’s Nikki Chapple, who will line up in this year’s Flight Centre Half Marathon, won Adelaide’s City to Bay 12km race in 39.19 on September 16. Nearly 40,000 took part in the 40th anniversary event.

Australian opposition leader Tony Abbott completed the Sydney Marathon on the weekend in 4:26.22. No entry has so far been received for the Prime Minister Julia Gillard to run the Melbourne Marathon.
