There's only four months to go until the 36th Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival on Sunday October 13. So now's the time to make the commitment to the 42km race, if you haven't already. For those of you who don't have time to train for such a long race, there's also the Flight Centre Half Marathon, The Coffee Club 10km Run, the ASICS 5.7km Run and 3km Walk with all events finishing inside the MCG.

  Switzer lands in Melbourne

Legendary distance runner Kathrine Switzer will be a special guest of the Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival on August 2. Switzer changed the sporting landscape in 1967 when she ran the Boston Marathon against the wishes of the race director, who attacked her mid-stride and tried to remove her from the then all-male event. Switzer campaigned for sports equality for women and in 1972 Boston relented, allowing women to run. Switzer went on to win the 1974 New York Marathon and became a TV commentator on marathons.
For details on how to meet her at the inaugural Melbourne Runners Luncheon at the MCG, please click here.

Win an active feet Runners pack!

Redeem your Melbourne Marathon Voucher active feet voucher from June 14 to July 14 at any active feet store and go into the draw to win the ultimate running pack worth $800!

With the Melbourne Marathon only 4 months away there is no better time than now to get fitted into shoes that will optimise your training outcomes. The event podiatrists at active feet are experts in conducting gait analysis to ensure that you receive the most appropriate shoe for your training. Having properly fitted shoes will increase the longevity of your footwear, minimise injury risk and maximise comfort and performance!

If you are doing the miles, make sure you invest in a second shoe. By alternating between two different pairs, you are ensuring that the midsoles of your running shoes are being properly rested between runs. This not only maximises their lifespan but also prevents you from becoming 'biomechanically dependent' on one shoe model. This second training shoe, even if it is just used for short runs will allow your body to adapt to different stresses that you are putting on your feet when you run.

If you haven't yet, download and print your in-store voucher and get fitted by our expert staff today!
