The Melbourne Runner
The official E-newsletter of the 2012 Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival
Ken ya believe it
Zurich Marathon winner John Kyui will start as race favourite for Sunday week’s 35th Medibank Melbourne Marathon. The 27-year-old Kenyan, who lives in Machakos, ran 2:10.00 to win the Swiss event last year and will be aiming to break our race record of 2:11.04 set by his countryman Japhet Kipkorir in 2010.
To ensure a smooth start on October 14, please be aware of your start times.
The Medibank Melbourne Marathon gun goes off 7:00am from Batman Avenue followed by The Coffee Club 10km Run at 7:30am. The next race to start will be the Flight Centre Half Marathon at 8:00am. The ASICS 5.7km will commence at 11:00am with the 3km starting shortly after at 11:15am.
All races will start on Batman Avenue, 150m north of Rod Laver Arena. From the MCG it is only a short walk over the foot bridge to the start line, so please allow 10-15 minutes to make your way across.

Verena, a Medibank staff member, was left paralysed and unable to walk after she was shot in the spine in Jordan in 2006. With hard work she was walking within 6 months but running has taken a lot longer. Verena shares her inspiring story and talks about her next challenge of completing the Medibank Melbourne Marathon 10km run in under an hour. Can't get public transport to the event? Why not try carpooling?
The Melbourne Marathon has partnered with CoCoRide.com.au to provide a ridesharing (a.k.a. carpooling) service for runners. If you're doing the Marathon, Half Marathon or the 10k and can't get public transport to the start line, you can share a ride by jumping on to the CocoRide website and registering as either a driver or a passenger. It'll be a great way to save money on parking and petrol, meet fellow runners, share training ideas and reduce your carbon footprint.
